Unseen 1

Hundreds of thousands of people visit Pilot Mountain State Park every year. There is a single road that will bring you to the top of the mountain where you have easy access to breathtaking lookouts, trails, and views of the knob. But very few stop to see the beauty along the way.

Just past the original ranger station is a forest of trees and boulders. I was struck by how the light was highlighting the grass in this spot and had to capture it.

This was also one of my very first exercises in following God’s direction with photography. There was no convenient place to park but I knew I needed to take the leap and get out. Far from anything I would ever normally do, I stopped the car in a safe spot on the side of the road and walked back down to photograph this scene…all while car after car drove past, never pausing to see what I had seen.
