Every spring, North Carolina has an initiative to plant wildflowers by the on-ramps onto the highways. I am amazed each May when the fields of red poppies emerge around our beloved Pilot Mountain.
While this particular year didn’t yield the field I was hoping for, I still stopped to see if I could catch a photo of Pilot Mountain with these poppies. To my disappointment, the photo was not meant to be. However, while with the poppies, I noticed several standalone varieties that cut through the bright red.
While the busy highway views only allow for a moment to see the whole, these stunning singles remain unseen though their beauty abounds.
